Yeah
well, how was that? It's like ridin' a tricycle--you never forget HOW?
but
you git kinda wobbly when that third wheel opens up to reveal yr teen
fanzine
is now flabby 'n crabby. What the FUH--y'know? We is what we are. Now
bow
yr worthless heads and prey on the god who ain't there in memory of the
reluctant love god DON KNOTTS. I remember sittin' in the Locke Theatre
at Saturday afternoon kiddie matinees in Jackson, Alabamy, as a little
1960s kid, laughin' and relatin' to Don as the nervous, lovable hero of
The
Ghost and Mr. Chicken and The
Reluctant Astronaut. But I had to go at night to see the
"adult" M-rated spectacle of Don as a virginal Hef-type mag publisher
in The
Love God?
(Yes, youngsters, there was once an M rating. For "Mature"--haw! Dig
this kid at imdb.com: "The Love God is a funny movie. don knotts is
very funny but notice this movie is PG-13 but it is still funny! i'm 13
years old. i own the movie it is good! the other don knotts movies are
not rated!") And yeah, all them great B&W episodes of Andy G,
and Mr. Furley made that stupid Three's Company shitcom a lot
more tolerable (am I the only one who thought Joyce DeWitt was foxier
than Suzanne Somers?). And speakin' of foxy, here's a photo of them
darn Magik Markers from a recent gig. . . .
Magik
Markers Elisa & Pete on 2/26 @ Great Scott in
Allston, MA.

Anyhow, that's it for
now. I'll see y'all next time with the 2nd installment of the new Slippy
Town Times. Meanwhile, you might wanna check out THIS shit too:
BERGS

longtime Crawlspacer Joe Dean. Groovy.

Shelley, Poe, Dickens, etc.

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART
The Radar Station
Great site with just about
everything you can imagine related to Mr. Van Vliet and company.
GET YOUR WAR ON
Hysterically funny anti-war comix.
HEAVY
METAL PARKING LOT / ERNEST BORGNINE ON THE BUS
Video verite at its most gripping!
RICHARD MELTZER
Richard
Meltzer's "Vinyl Reckoning"
A huge piece on records by one of
the originators of so-called rock journalism, but don't hold that
against him! From The Chicago Reader.
CHARLES MINGUS
Unofficial Mingus Website
Serious, no-bullshit site
dedicated to the music of the great composer/musician/improvisor. (The
"official" Mingus site, run by widow Sue Mingus, is full of bullshit
hype for current product and Mingus cover
bands. Ugh.)
MX-80
Official website of the
long-running avant-rock combo.
RED HOT BANDS 1895-1929
Lots of early jazz you can listen
to in Real Audio. Dig the Dixieland Washboard Band's "Cushion Foot
Stomp"! Thrill to the banjo solo
on "Get Easy Blues" by Lil Hardaway's Orchestra! 23 skidoooo!
BUDDY RICH BERATES HIS BAND
Psychotic and hysterical!
THE SONICS
The greatest of all 1960s garage
rockers! Not to mention the greatest of all Pacific Northwest rockers!
SUN
CITY GIRLS
As far as I'm concerned, this trio is the best rock band of the
past 25 years. The Bishop brothers and Mr. Gocher can do
pretty much ANYTHING they want to do. If you still don't know, check
'em out.
WANG
DANG DULA
Hep site devoted to pre-psych R&R/R&B/C&W craziness. Lots
of stuff here, including discographies for the gonest artists (Hasil
Adkins, Don & Dewey, Dick Curliss, Hound Dog Taylor, Billy Lee
Riley, Sam The Sham, etc.) and the wildest labels (Sun, Chess, Ace,
Excello, Specialty, Etiquette, etc.).
