YOKO SATO
Searching for My Recording Engineer (Public Eyesore) CDR $7

SATOR
Barbie-Q-Killers (Planet of Noise/WEA; Sweden) $19

1994 major-label release from Swedish punk band covering obscuro American bands, including the Gizmos' "Kiss of the Rat"! Plus tunes (most never officially released) you probably don't know by the Nuns, the Suicide Commandos, the Zeros, the Avengers, the Dils, Crime, the Stimulators, F-Word, the Weirdos, and the Skulls. Includes a chart explaining the bands and the material. The intro to each song is a live intro to one of the bands in question, or Mayor Daley in Chicago '68, or Spiro Agnew, etc.

DOUG SNYDER & BOB THOMPSON
Daily Dance (New Frontiers) $20

Released 1998; now out of print.

"This is the 25th year anniversary reissue of a noteworthy historical and musical document. Daily Dance was recorded in rural Fayette County, Ohio in 1972, yet its clangorous drones sound as if they could have been recorded yesterday (or, perhaps, a few hours ago). Daily Dance was originally released as an LP in 1973 on the New Frontiers label . . . and has been out of print for about fifteen years.

"Five years later Doug (largely on the strength of this recording) would become a 'key' member of recondite NYC noise-improv ensemble Sick Dick and the Volkswagens, along with Donald Miller (Borbetomagus and Lhasa Cement Plant), Mark Abbott (see John Zorn's School) and Brian Doherty (Borbeto and Lhasa).

"After Sick Dick’s demise (1983), Doug returned to Ohio. To this day, Snyder and Thompson perform and record together on a regular basis.

"All in all, here is a disc that looks back toward The Velvet Underground, the Stooges and Elvin Jones, as it looks forward to Ascension, Keiji Haino and William Hooker (and any number of other free-noising, free-rocking manifestations) . . . and it was recorded over 25 years ago!"

STRAIGHT OUTTA MONGOLIA
S.O.M. (Fencing Flatworm Recordings; England) CDR $16

Odd, appealing outsider-pop with a heavy dose of mutant basement hiphop exotica. Outta-kilter kinda-songs constructed with what sounds like casio keyboard, synth, real piano (?), beatbox, turntable, maye some live percussion, and "sampling" of some sort. Out of print from now-defunct label.

STRAIGHT OUTTA MONGOLIA
The Redundancy of Saying Sorry (Fencing Flatworm Recordings; England) CDR $16

S.O.M. returns with another little batch of his irresistible techno-mutant-pop. Plop. Op. "Baby Drove a Spaceship 2004" and "Looks Can Be Fatal," etc. With assistance from Random Number, Fluxorgy, and James Cutts. Yeah, this baby can drive my car off the cliff into some other watery dream. Waaaaa! Twinkle. Released 2004. Fencing Flatworm has sadly folded, so get these while you can!

SUN CITY GIRLS
Valentines from Matahari (Majora) $25

1998 CD reissue of classic 1993 LP. Eleven short coils of barbed wire ripped across the strings of your heart, "songs" for that dreaded in-between time when romance is rubbed out but your heart is still pumpin' hard. Everything that modern rock music should be, but just a few hundred times too real for most rockers.

SUN CITY GIRLS
Bright Surroundings Dark Beginnings
(Majora) $25

1998 CD reissue of classic 1993 LP. Sun City Girls at their ethnic-forging best. "The Venerable Song (The Meaning of Which Is No Longer Known)" is a perfect chant for the post-American Western Hemisphere. Then comes the Eastern/psychedelic guitar freak-out "Omani Red Light." And "The Multiple Hallucinations of an Assassin" is a prime example of that low scratchy sound we've grown to know and love over the last umpteen years, building into another Rick Bishop Eastern-guitar statement.
SWEDEN
Same Dif (Dual Plover; Australia) $15

Dual Plover catalog: " . . . the long awaited earspliting audio autopsy of sweden on their long-awaited debut lp 'same diff' featues living legend SWEDEN on vocals and second-hand records, accompanied on electronics and treatments by Garry Bradbury (SIZE/severed heads) plus special guests the inmates of Fanny Deacon's Retirement Home on percussion. a caberat nosie style re-enactment of cataclysmic musical moments from the 60's and 70's starting with the sinister opening bars of 'White Rabbit' to the orgasmic climax of 'Macarthur Park,' not so much the music you want to hear but the music you deserve, complete with a 20min cdrom video component highlighting sweden's notorious live history spanning from 1988 including the grotesque but strangely compelling 'dickstretch.'" Released 2001. Out of print from the label.
