CHARLIE PARKER
untitled (Old Gold) one-sided LP $15

Atanta, Georgia-based nine-piece not-jazz unit following in the footsteps of Borbetomagus and Blowhole. Limited-edition type thing in plain black sleeve and repro of handwritten insert. Out of print. (This is NOT the dead bop pioneer!)

COFFEE
One-Armed One-Man Band Live (Giardia Recordings) $15

Excellent 1997 album by Rochester, NY combo who specialize in honking, skittering not-jazz, free noise, explosive improv, and probably a couple other alleged genres. Burn, baby, burn.

The Dark Folds of Infinity Grow Pink With Desire (Majora Records) $25

Edition of 500 copies. 1997 home-recorded (on 16-track) LP which introduced a collective-improv approach to Crawlspace that included these players in various combinations: Eddie Flowers, Joe Dean, Dave Fontana, Greg Hajic, Todd Homer, Larry Robinson, Les Greenfield, and Paul Fontana.

Fred Mills, Magnet: "Some tracks here involve the cut-up, paste/splice aesthetics of serious Burroughs disciples, while others invite squinty-eyed comparisons to Ornette Coleman, Faust, and even the Beatles. The small symphony squawkings of 'Scungilli' could be misheard as outtakes from old cartoon soundtracks; the dada-esque twang and marching kazoo band thump of 'Another Fine Mess' sound like the Godz playing Beefheart."

The Exquisite Fucking Beauty of Crawlspace (Majora Records) LP $25

Released 1995. Edition of 500 copies. With Eddie Flowers, Joe Dean, Mark McCormick, Allen Clark, Dave Fontana, and Bob Lee. Live 'shroom-fueled extravaganza recorded at a local L.A. radio station. Cover art by Grandville.

CRAWLSPACE
In the Gospel Zone (Behemoth Records/Bona Fide Records) LP $20

Debut Crawlspace LP released in 1989. Second presing on black vinyl, without insert.

Fred Mills, The Bob magazine: "Few will call this psychedelic in the usual sense, but [Crawlspace's version of Can's 'Little Star of Bethlehem'] is truly an epic, mind-numbing vinyl experience. Furthermore, the band makes with the punk noize to such an extent that comparisons to other bands don't do justice. . . . This is one of the best albums of the year, and an archetype of Americana at that--you don't file it 'tween Cramps and Creedence for nothing, y'know!"

Jimmy Johnson, Forced Exposure magazine: "This isn't about smut, it's about annihilation . . . and Crawlin' Ed and cohorts are up to their gills in enough strength, chemical knowledge, and handsome looks to pull it off."
