OBSERVERS OBSERVING
OBSERVABLES
"Watch Out for the Other Guy"/"Babaloo
No More"/"Expiration Date"/"ReModel Yourself"
(Hardly Music) $20
Synth-driven damage 'n nonsense released in 1980
by Indianapolis label. The first side is heavy on
the Residents influence, and includes some silly
sample-style snippets from I Love Lucy. The flip is
a bit more, um, off? "Expiration Date" displays
sci-fi consumer trauma and teen wit transmitted
via funky electro punk and spoken vocal. "ReModel
Yourself" is a near-acapella, part-spoken piece that
starts out talking about self-improvement in a caustic
MX-80-like way and ends up as an angular harmony vocal
shout about the Iranian Hostage Crisis. The latter part
is very Art Bears or 70s Red Krayola, with male and female
voices urgently chanting "the news!"
